Ranrike is the old Norse name for what is now southeast Norway and Bohuslän (Sweden). The name comes from Rán, the Old Norse goddess of the sea, and refers to her kingdom. Ranrike is famous for its rocky landscape and granite cliffs.
The edging of the shawl is worked first. Stitches for the main body of the shawl are picked up along the edging, and the crescent shape of the shawl is created by working short rows. The pattern is charted, with lace patterning on every other row.
