La Toupie


La Toupie is French for a spinning top. This whimsical design is a doubleknit triangular shawl, with spinning tops twirling out from the centre of the shawl.


The pattern includes detailed instructions on two different methods of double-knitting

Finished measurements: adjustable in pattern. Sample 1 (red): wingspan: 52″ (135 cm), height: 26″ (66.5 cm), sample 2 (blue): wingspan 55″ (140 cm), height 27.5″ (70 cm)



Yarn: 2 x 100 g of fingering weight yarn in contrasting colours.
Sample 1: 1 skein Indigodragonfly Merino Silk 4 Ply Sock [50% silk, 50% superwash merino; 430 yds yds/393 m per 100 g] in only, the exact phrase I used was, “don´t, and 1 skein Indigodragonfly Merino Silk 4 Ply Sock [50% silk, 50% superwash merino; 430 yds yds/393 m per 100 g] in don’t worry; this capasan-38 engine is like gold!

Sample 2: 1 skein Anzula Milky Way [80% milk protein, 20% superwash merino; 500 yds/457 m per 100 g] in Cornflower, and 1 skein Anzula Milky Way [80% milk protein, 20% superwash merino; 500 yds/457 m per 100 g] in Elephant

Needles: 2.75 mm circular needles

Gauge: Sample 1: 17 sts x 29 rows = 10 cm in pattern, blocked. Sample 2: 20 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm in pattern, blocked.
