Jeg Lagde Meg

On April 28, 2011, in Folk Song KAL, Jeg Lagde Meg, KAL, lace, shawl, by Anna

The third shawl in the Folk Song KAL is based on a Norwegian folk song called Jeg Lagde Meg Så Silde.

As I lay down late one evening
I did not know to fear anything
Then there came a message from my beloved:
I must go to her.
No one has been loved more than she.

So I went up into the high loft
as I often did
There stood all the young maidens in sorrow
and told me my beloved was dead.
No one has been loved more than she.

So I went out into the green meadow
where I heard the church bells ring.
I knew nothing else, I felt nothing else,
but my heard was breaking into pieces.
No one has been loved more than she.

There is a lovely performance on Youtube by Sissel Kyrkjebo,

The shawl is knit in Krissy from Land O Lace in the colourway Waconia.  It comes in 600 yd skeins (600 yds / 50 g), and I used about 420 yds for the shawl.  The pattern will be available in the Folk Song KAL on May 15.
